On 11th December, 2019, The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Trinidad and Tobago Volleyball Federation (TTVF), geared towards the continued development of Volleyball in Trinidad and Tobago.
Both parties agreed to seek to encourage and ensure mutual cooperation and support between UTT’s Academy of Sport and TTVF’s Academies and National Teams. They also agreed to do all within their power to lend technical support to each other in an effort at ensuring the continued development of volleyball in Trinidad and Tobago.
Although some of the collaborative on-court efforts have been shelved due to the Covid-19 pandemic, both institutions have been using technology to create new and innovative strategies towards ensuring the success of this partnership.
One such strategy is the use of the Zoom platform to conduct joint training sessions involving National Female Volleyballers and UTT’s Scholarship Volleyballers (see video attached). UTT’s High Performance Volleyball Coach, Mr. Francisco Cruz, who is also the Head Coach of T&T’s National Women Volleyball team, joined with Mr. Trevor Theroulde, Technical Director, TTVF, to conduct these Zoom sessions, remotely observing and guiding athletes through their given drills.
This MoU also created a pathway for UTT to obtain the services of Mr. Christobal Marte Hoffiz, Vice President of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and Mr. Jaime Lamboy, President of the Legal Commission of the FIVB, as panelists on their well-delivered Sport Webinars in June and July earlier this year.
These initiatives provide strong evidence of an MoU in action.
