The Certificate in Sport Studies programme provides students with a basic yet global enquiry into the study of sport. The psycho-social and physical aspects of sport would be pursued. On completion of the course, opportunities to matriculate in the BSc.in Kinesiology at UTT, and other work-related interest example personal training and coaching could be realized.

Entry Requirements:

• Passes in a minimum of five (5) subjects at CSEC (CXC O’Level) General Proficiency in Grades I or II and from 1998, Grade III or equivalent GCE O’Levels including Grades A, B or C in Mathematics, English Language, and a science subject (including Physical Education). 

Note: Acceptance will be on a competitive basis due to limitations on class sizes. 

Mature Student Entry 

An applicant who does not satisfy all the stipulated minimum academic or technical qualifications for admission to a programme, based on years of experience and the ability to handle the level of programme learning, may be accepted as a mature student. The applicant would need to possess the critical elements of the stipulated qualification and would be assessed by the UTT Programme Leader as possessing a combination of qualifications and educational or experiential maturity to enable him/her to successfully participate in the programme.

The first of its kind in the Trinidad and Tobago and by extension the Caribbean, this new programme ensures that students can gain the expertise to prepare for new and exciting career paths in sport and its allied fields. The programme also offers an opportunity to gain expertise in the scientific approach to the preparation and management of athletes and active individuals. 

Additionally, the programme makes a strong connection between sport and the community, and charts an authentic course for using sport as a tool for personal and social development and entrepreneurship.

Entry Requirements:

• Five (5) CSEC (CXC O’Level’s) or GCE O’ Level subjects, inclusive of Math, English and a Science (Human and Social Biology, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Integrated Science, Agricultural Science) AND Any two (2) Cape (Unit 1 and 2) or GCE A’ Level subjects plus General Paper or Caribbean Studies or Communication Studies; Physical Education at the CXC/GCE O’ Level and CAPE level will be an asset; OR 
• Certificate in Sport Studies or equivalent programme; OR 
• A combination of relevant experience and academic qualification. Students may be subject to an aptitude test and an interview to determine suitability for entry to the programme. 

Mature Student Entry 

An applicant who does not satisfy all the stipulated minimum academic or technical qualifications for admission to the Bachelors programme may be accepted as a mature student. He/She would need to possess the critical elements of the stipulated qualification and would be assessed by the UTT Programme Professor/Leader for possession of a combination of qualifications and educational or experiential maturity to enable him/her to participate successfully in the programme. 

It is important to note the following: 

• Applicants with equivalent qualifications, as determined by the UTT, will also be considered for admission 
• Students writing examinations in May to July 2021 are advised to also submit applications prior to the closing date 
• CSEC (CXC O’Level) General Proficiency Grade III, from 1998, is accepted.

The Master of Science in Kinesiology is an advanced multidisciplinary degree that exposes students to diverse knowledge and skills in human movement. The goal of the programme is to provide students with experiential learning to meet the growing needs of sport in the Caribbean. There are five options from which students can select:

Entry Requirements:

A relevant Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University

• Sport Therapy specialization requires 11 prerequisites. (College Math, College English, Biology I and II, Chemistry I and II, Physiology I and II and Anatomy I and II
• Elite Sport Coaching specialization requires 3 prerequisites. Anatomy, Physiology and a Level I coaching certification. 

Mature Student Entry

An applicant who may not possess all the stipulated minimum academic qualifications for admission to the programme may be accepted as a Mature Student provided that upon assessment, he/she possesses critical elements of academic and/or industry experience to enable successful entry into the programme.

Description

The Master of Philosophy is awarded on completion of a thesis, based on innovative work, demonstrating evidence of mastery in the application of advanced techniques in the solution of a research problem, and the successful completion of a minimum of four (4) mandatory research courses and a minimum of four (4) seminars. There must be an oral defence of the Thesis. 

Taught courses are offered online. Meetings relating to supervisor directed courses are held using communication applications such as Zoom or MS Teams. Special arrangements may be made for laboratory and personal interaction, should the need arise, in keeping with existing health protocols.

• Persons holding a Taught Master’s Degree from an approved university with a B average or equivalent GPA. 
• Persons holding a Bachelor’s degree from an approved university with a B+ average, or Upper Second-Class Honors or equivalent GPA. 
• Persons with other professional qualifications and industrial or business experience deemed to be suitable by the Board of Postgraduate Studies and Research.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees are awarded on the basis of a Dissertation based on original research, together with successful completion of a minimum of four (4) mandatory research courses and four (4) seminars. The written Dissertation report must provide documentation of a significant original contribution to the body of knowledge in the area of study and an oral defence of the Dissertation.
