Mushtaque Mohammed was born on the 4th August, 1962, in the small village of Piparo.  He has been involved in sports, both as a sportsman and as an administrator, and played cricket in his early career as a wicket-keeper and an opening batsman for the village team.  Volleyball, though, has been his passion especially as the game was played on an oil sand court at the front of his home. In 1988, he was elected as the Assistant Secretary of the Trinidad and Tobago Volleyball Federation (TTVF) and, by May 1989, he was promoted to Secretary General; a post which he held until 1992 when he became President of the TTVF and served in that post until November 2012.

Currently, he is an Honorary Life President of the TTVF. In 1993, after the successful hosting of the 3rd Caribbean Volleyball Championships, he received the Jeffery Stollmeyer’s Sport Administrators Award.  In 1994, he became the first President of the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association; a post he currently holds. In 1996, he was elected by the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) as Vice President and still serves at this position. He joined the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee in 1997 as an Executive Member and served for eight (8) years until 2005. He then served another eight (8) year term, as Vice President, until April 2013.

Mr. Mohammed believes that sport is an avenue to assist the development of the nation’s future leaders. In a society where there is a heavy need for youth mentorship, he has decided to dedicate his life towards making a meaningful contribution.  Having served as a teacher at the San Fernando Technical Institute in the Civil Engineering Department for 25 years, Mr. Mohammed then joined UTT in 2007 as a Senior Sports Officer in the Academy of Sport and Leisure Studies. He is the holder of an International Masters in Sports Organisation Management from the University of Poiter, France, and an International Masters in Sports for Development from UTT.

In November, 2009, Mr. Mohammed was elected to the Board of Administration of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and is the Secretary of the Development Commission at FIVB. His ambition is to promote the development of strong communities through sport, as he believes that a society which we help to create, is the one in which we shall live.
