Aneil Ramkhalawan is an Assistant Professor at The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT), for the past ten (10) years in the Manufacturing and Design Engineering Programme. He has completed his doctoral work from the Design and Manufacturing Engineering department in the area of controls and renewable energy with specific interest in Ocean wave energy devices and simulators. He has a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from The University of the West Indies (UWI) and a Diploma in Process Plant Operations from The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT). He was awarded the Best Mechanical Engineering project and Best Engineering project in the Faculty of Engineering in 2004 at UWI. This project also won Engineers Most Innovative Design award in the 2004 Building and Interior Trade Show (BITS).
His research area is wave-powered desalination with specific interest in the application and modelling of heaving buoys on the ocean waves for Renewable energy purposes. He is also doing work in the field of PID controls and its application to hydraulic systems. He also does some teaching, conducts laboratory exercises and assists in student projects at UTT for courses such as Engineering System Dynamics, Engineering Drawing, CADCAM, Mechatronics, Controls and Instrumentation.
He has presented and published his research work at both local and international forums such as The International Association of Science and Technology for Development (IASTED) conference in Pittsburgh, United States, in 2011, also at The Association of Professional Engineers of Trinidad and Tobago (APETT) technical conference in Trinidad and Tobago in 2015 and APETT journal in 2016, Tobago Gas Technology conference in 2008 and at the Caribbean Academy of Science conference in Grenada in 2008.
