Profile
Dr Amarnath Chinchamee has spent the last twenty years teaching tertiary education. His expertise ranged from Draughting and CAD to Surveying and Geospatial Information. Dr Chinchamee obtained his PhD in Surveying and Land Information in 2010 at the Department of Surveying and Land Information, the University of the West Indies (UWI), St Augustine; becoming the department's first Graduate Land Surveyor to graduate there with a PhD. His thesis was "Developing a Geo-informatics based methodology to manage natural vegetation habitats in Trinidad".
At John S. Donaldson Technical Institute, he graduated with his NEC Diploma in General Draughtsmanship and obtained a national scholarship to study Engineering at UWI, St Augustine. There he pursued his bachelor's degree in Surveying and Land Information. After graduating with honours, he accepted a Dean's Award, where he started post-graduate work in October 2002.
Dr Amarnath Chinchamee has spent close to fifteen years at the University of Trinidad and Tobago. He previously worked as a draughting technician and a graduate land surveyor. Dr Chinchamee, through his research, hopes to raise the awareness of the value of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in Engineering in Trinidad and Tobago. His research area is centred on using GIS in Water Resources Management, Environmental Monitoring and Hazard Mapping, and GIS in Road and Transport Management Systems.
