Mrs. Jo-Ellen Redhead completed a Bachelors of Science degree at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine with a major in Biology and minor in Sports Management. She then went on to achieve a Masters of Science in Athletic Training at Seton Hall University, New Jersey with the aid of a scholarship granted from the Organisation of the American States (OAS). This provided the platform for successful passing of the Board of Certification examination to become a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC). While at Seton Hall University, she had the opportunity to carry out several internships at local collegiate and high-school sport medicine departments and gain exceptional practical knowledge in the field.
Upon her return to Trinidad, Mrs. Redhead gained employment with one of the top teams in the Professional Football League, working as a key member of the sport medicine team for over five years. She also spent some time employed with UTT’s High Performance Unit in the Rehabilitation Department. Mrs. Redhead has worked with several sports teams across the country, providing athletic training and sport medicine/therapy services to those in need.
As a Sport Officer at the Ministry of Sport she had the opportunity to create and oversee sport programmes at community and national level. Mrs. Redhead has also had the opportunity to work with professionals in the field to develop, revise and implement sport policies within the Ministry.
She later gained valuable teaching experience as a part-time lecturer, for over four years, at COSTAAT, teaching Anatomy and Physiology to students, most of whom were pursuing their nursing degree.
Her passion and interests lie in Sport Medicine and Rehabilitation and she would like to see this aspect of the local sport industry develop further, with respect to research, qualification of individuals and development and implementation of governing policies.
