After completing his secondary level education at Trinity College, Moka, Maraval   Dr. Joel Paul, Assistant  Professor decided to pursue a career in teaching, largely based on the advice of his A’ Level History teacher. Approximately three (3) years after teaching he was awarded a National Scholarship to pursue a BSc. in Sports Science at Portsmouth University (UK). This was followed by an International Full Fees Masters Scholarship at Exeter University (UK) to pursue the MSc. in Paediatric Exercise Physiology.

Upon completion of his Master’s degree Dr. Paul returned to Trinidad where he joined the Associate Professionals Programme (APA) for returning scholars that was spearheaded by the Ministry of Public Administration. He was placed at The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) where he worked in the High Performance Unit as an Exercise Physiologist. During this time, he also shared teaching responsibility for the undergraduate Sport Safety and First Aid Unit. Almost two (2) years later Dr. Paul was awarded a National Scholarship to pursue a Ph.D. in Sports Science at Kingston University (UK). While at Kingston he also completed the Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA) certified course in Introduction to Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. At the end of the course he was awarded the status of Associate Fellow of Higher Education (AFHEA).

Leading on from his doctoral studies, Dr. Paul’s current research interest is focused on talent identification and development, particularly as it relates to Trinidad and Tobago. Apart from this, he also possesses a keen interest in paediatric exercise and health.
