Dr. Marlon Melville has recently been appointed Assistant Professor within the Academy of Sports. He holds a Ph.D. in Physical Education (specialising in Sport & Exercise Psychology), a M.Sc. in Sports Management and a B.Sc. in Educational Services. He was awarded a full scholarship from the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (GoRTT) to pursue his Ph.D., and was also awarded a Merit of Excellence for his Doctoral pursuits.
Prior to joining the Academy, he taught Physical Education at El Dorado East Secondary from (2006 - 2010) and served as a police officer within the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service from (1993 - 2006). He credits his stints at these two organisations for developing a work ethic that he sees as pivotal for professional success.
Dr. Melville is passionate about research and intends to build the research capacity of the Academy. Presently, he teaches Research Methodology to the undergraduate students and both Advance Research Methodology and Graduate Seminar to the postgraduate students. He advises the graduate students on research design and statistics for their Master’s thesis and at the moment, is developing psychometrics to predict student success at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Dr. Melville is an active member of the American Association of Sport Psychology (AASP), Sport Health and Physical Education (SHAPE), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NCSA) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
Dr. Melville is excited to be part of the team at the Academy of Sports. His vision is to increase the number of programmes at the graduate level and to make the academic Unit the preferred choice for scholarly undertakings.
