Dr. Kerry Dollaway has a great passion for teaching and education. During his pursuit of a BSc in Kinesiology at Temple University, he was encouraged very early on to pursue a career in teaching. Dr. Dollaway never understood why his teachers and professors always encouraged him to teach. However, when pursuing his doctoral degree where he focused on rehabilitation science in the specialty of physical therapy, his professors once again urged him to get into teaching because they thought he had? gift to teach.
Dr. Dollaway started his teaching career as an undergraduate tutor at Temple University. In addition, when he returned to Trinidad and Tobago in 2010, he started as a volunteer teacher at the University of Trinidad and Tobago where he taught Anatomy, Motor Learning and Exercise Prescription. He also taught Anatomy on the Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force Physical Trainers course and to nurses in training at the College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT). ?In 2013 Dr. Dollaway joined as a full time faculty member at the Academy of Sport and Leisure Studies at UTT.
Dr. Dollaway has a passion for teaching especially in the areas of Anatomy, Prevention and care of injury and Sport Science. He now lectures in the areas of Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics, Motor Learning, Exercise Prescription, Sport Science, Prevention and Care of Injuries, Principles of Strength and Conditioning and Teaching and Coaching Basketball.
Dr. Dollaway is a very qualified sport injury, neurological and orthopedic rehabilitation clinician, and is also wound care certified. He holds many post graduate and professional certifications and comes highly recommended when it comes to rehabilitation of sport injuries, wound care and prevention of injury. His main research focus is in the area of Prevention of injury and is currently finalizing some ground breaking research in Trinidad and Tobago as it relates to that area.
He plans to complete his first anatomy text and lab manual by September of 2015.
Dr. Dollaway works closely with some of the National Sporting Organizations in Trinidad and Tobago, with the Trinidad and Tobago Paralympic Committee having a special place in his heart. He went to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games as the chief medical officer of the Trinidad Paralympic contingent. There he won an Award for Participation in Research that focused on Injuries to the Paralympic athlete and was recognized by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the Sports Science Institute of South Africa. Dr. Dollaway has brought this passion and drive for sport, rehabilitation, teaching and research to the University of Trinidad and Tobago. In a collaborative effort, and support from all other faculty and the Provost, his aim is to create one of the best Sport Studies programs in the Caribbean and the Americas.
