The Certificate in Applied Engineering (CAE) programme is designed for persons who are interested in qualifying for entry into the UTT engineering diploma programmes. It is intended to provide secondary school students who do not have a full CSEC (CXC O'Level) or GCE O'Levels certificate, persons who hold a full craft or pre-technician certificate and mature students, an entry route to embark upon a career in engineering. CAE is also a terminal qualification, for those who do not wish to continue for the Diploma. 

Students wanting to further their educational pursuits within the MME Unit and meet the matriculation requirements, can apply to the NETD in Mechanical Engineering programme.

Entry Requirements:

• CSEC (CXC) General Proficiency level in Grades I or II and from 1998, Grade III or GCE O’Levels including Grades A, B or C or equivalent in Mathematics, English Language and a Science subject (Physics or Chemistry or Integrated Science) or Technical Drawing or Additional Mathematics or Industrial Technology. 
• Persons possessing Full Craft/Pre-Technician certificates such as the National Examination Council (NEC) and the Trinidad and Tobago National Vocational Qualification (TTNVQ) with Mathematics, English Language and a Science subject (Physics or Chemistry) or Technical Drawing or Industrial Technology. 
• Other suitable combination of qualifications and/or experience will be considered. 

Mature Entry: 

An applicant who does not satisfy all the stipulated minimum academic or technical qualifications for admission to a programme, based on years of experience and the ability to handle the level of programme learning, may be accepted as a mature student. The applicant would need to possess the critical elements of the stipulated qualification and would be assessed, by the UTT Programme Leader or designate, as possessing a combination of qualifications and educational or experiential maturity to enable him/her to successfully participate in the programme.

The National Engineering Technician Diploma (NETD) programmes are designed to create well-rounded technicians with a strong educational foundation and industry-relevant skills and competencies. Graduates who meet the programme matriculation requirements may apply for admission into any of the UTT’s Engineering Bachelor degree programmes. 

The NETD in Mechanical Engineering programme offered by Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing and Entrepreneurship Unit is an internationally accredited programme with The Institute of Engineering Technology (IET). It is designed to produce Engineering Technicians capable of performing effectively in a variety of industrial jobs. These include inspecting machinery, plant engineering, manufacturing, design and drafting, maintenance activities and various technical services in industries. Graduates develop the required skills through the practical application of key concepts and principles in mechanical engineering, such as: fluids, design, strength of materials, manufacturing, plant machinery, maintenance and controllers.

Students wanting to further their educational pursuits within the MME Unit and meet the matriculation requirements, can apply to the B.A.Sc. in Manufacturing and Design Engineering programme.

Mode of Delivery and Duration:

Full-Time; Two (2) years

Part Time; Three (3) years 

Entry Requirements:

• Passes in a minimum of five (5) subjects at CSEC (CXC O’Level) General Proficiency in Grades I or II and from 1998, Grade III or equivalent GCE O’Level including Grades A, B or C in Mathematics, English Language, Physics OR 
• Completion of UTT’s Pre-University Programme (PUP) or Certificate in Applied Engineering programme with a minimum of 50% in ALL attempted subject areas; OR 
• Other equivalent qualifications may also be considered.

The Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Manufacturing and Design Engineering degree is an internationally accredited honours engineering programme that prepares students for careers as professional engineers, locally and internationally. The student will be trained in the various aspects of manufacturing and design such as materials, product design, automation, production, instrumentation and operations management. Manufacturing and Design engineers have to deal with various aspects of processes to produce a variety of products requiring innovation in product development, use of sophisticated machines (computer or robot-controlled), computer aided-aided modelling, lean manufacturing systems, sustainability and economic feasibility, entrepreneurship and marketability. The students will therefore be required to develop skills in a variety of industrial processes.

Students wanting to further their educational pursuits within the MME Unit and meet the matriculation requirements, can either apply to the Master of Science in Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship or the Master of Science in Manufacturing Management and Entrepreneurship programmes.

Entry Requirements:

The admission requirements are in accordance with the University’s regulation for admission to undergraduate BASc. Programmes require the following: 

• Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) Levels 1 and 2 or GCE A-Levels in following subjects: Mathematics and either Physics or Chemistry, Caribbean Studies and Communications Studies or General Paper and CSEC/CXC O’Level Physics and any other science subject would be an asset (not mandatory); OR 
• Relevant NEC Technician’s Diploma; OR 
• Relevant NETD/HNC/HND Technicians’ Diploma.

The Master of Science in Innovation, Manufacturing Management and Entrepreneurship (IMME) allows graduates to explore their entrepreneurial business idea(s) throughout the programme with courses offered to enhance both their management and business process improvement skills with a special thrust being exposure to the local industry. The students also will be exposed to international industry via an international study tour.  

Entry Requirements:

• A relevant Bachelor's degree from a recognized University.
• A combination of undergraduate education and equivalent experience will also be considered.

Mature Student Entry:

An applicant who may not possess all the stipulated minimum academic qualifications for admission to the programme may be accepted as a Mature Student provided that upon assessment, he/she possesses critical elements of academic and/or industry experience to enable successful entry into the programme.

Description

The M.Sc. in IDE is a taught master’s programme with a mix of design and business courses with a special thrust being exposure to the local industry. The students also will be exposed to international industry via an international study tour.

This programme is offered biennially (once every two years).

Programme Credits: 45

Entry Requirements:

• A relevant Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University in an engineering discipline or other numerate degree. Graduates with design degrees will also be considered.
• A combination of undergraduate education and equivalent experience will also be considered. 

Mature Student Entry 

An applicant who may not possess all the stipulated minimum academic qualifications for admission to the programme may be accepted as a Mature Student provided that upon assessment, he/she possesses critical elements of academic and/or industry experience to enable successful entry into the programme.

The Master of Philosophy is awarded on completion of a thesis, based on innovative work, demonstrating evidence of mastery in the application of advanced techniques in the solution of a research problem, and the successful completion of a minimum of four (4) mandatory research courses and a minimum of four (4) seminars. There must be an oral defence of the Thesis. 

Taught courses are offered online. Meetings relating to supervisor directed courses are held using communication applications such as Zoom or MS Teams. Special arrangements may be made for laboratory and personal interaction, should the need arise, in keeping with existing health protocols.

Entry Requirements:

• Persons holding a Taught Master’s Degree from an approved university with a B average or equivalent GPA. 
• Persons holding a Bachelor’s degree from an approved university with a B+ average, or Upper Second-Class Honors or equivalent GPA. 
• Persons with other professional qualifications and industrial or business experience deemed to be suitable by the Board of Postgraduate Studies and Research.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees are awarded on the basis of a Dissertation based on original research, together with successful completion of a minimum of four (4) mandatory research courses and four (4) seminars. The written Dissertation report must provide documentation of a significant original contribution to the body of knowledge in the area of study and an oral defence of the Dissertation.
