Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology is a well-established discipline worldwide. Electrical/Electronic Engineering technicians use the principles and theories of science, engineering, and mathematics to solve technical problems within a number of public utilities, as well as, a wide range of manufacturing, processing and transportation industries.
The "National Engineering Technician Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering" is designed to equip individuals with the practical skills, knowledge and understanding required for success in current employment and progression to future employment for a range of electrical/electronic occupations including installation, testing, operation and maintenance of complex electrical/electronic engineering products and systems.
The NETD in Electrical/Electronic Engineering programme is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirements for registration as an Engineering Technician and partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer.
The programme duration is two (2) years Full Time or four (4) years Part Time. It requires 82 credits for graduation and includes a Capstone project and Internship.
The NETD in Electrical/Electronic Engineering programme is presently offered at UTT's San Fernando and Port-of-Spain campuses UTT Campus at MIC-IT's Tobago Technology Centre.

Entry Requirements:

Passes in a minimum of five (5) subjects at CSEC (CXC O’Level) General Proficiency in Grades I or II and from 1998, Grade III or equivalent GCE O’Level including Grades A, B or C in Mathematics, English Language, Physics or Electrical and Electronic Technology OR

Completion of UTT’s Pre-University Programme (PUP) or Certificate in Applied Engineering programme with a minimum of 50% in ALL attempted subject areas; OR

Other equivalent qualifications may also be considered.
Mature Student Entry
An applicant who does not satisfy all the stipulated minimum academic qualifications for admission to the programme, may be considered for acceptance as a mature student, based on relevant and significant industrial experience. The applicant would need to possess the critical elements of the stipulated qualifications and will be assessed by the Programme Leader and a designated team comprising of members from the programme. The aim of the assessment is to ensure that the potential candidate possesses a combination of qualifications and educational or experiential maturity to enable him/her to participate successfully in the programme.
