Certificate in Food Technology This programme was designed for persons wanting to pursue careers in the food and beverage industry. Graduates will have the ability to engage in entrepreneurial activities or enter the industry being “work-ready”, highly motivated and have the knowledge base and skills relevant to the industry. New and existing employees of the food and beverage industry can acquire the technical and practical knowledge and skills for food processing, food safety and good manufacturing practices at the entry level. The programme aims to contribute to the achievement of food security and food safety in Trinidad and Tobago by focusing on the use and processing of local produce for value-added products, strengthening food and beverage organizations and their human capacity.

Diploma in Agriculture The Diploma in Agriculture is geared towards providing sound theoretical and practical training in Animal Production, Crop Production, Agro-processing, Soil Science, Farm Business Management and many more. Diploma in Animal Health, Production and Veterinary Public Health The University of Trinidad and Tobago through the Department of Biosciences, Agriculture and Food Technologies (BAFT) / Eastern Caribbean Institute of Agriculture and Forestry (ECIAF) Campus offers a residential programme providing training in Animal Health Management, Animal Production and Veterinary Public Health. Cabinet Minute STTE (2006) 45 is an approval by Cabinet whereby current and future ECIAF’s programmes are mandated to produce “young people with a practical technological tertiary level education”. Graduates of this programme are ‘work ready individuals’ who are rapidly employed in the monitoring of animal health in the ruminant and poultry sector.
Although the Diploma in AHPVPH has been in existence for many years, this revised version brings in a new philosophy of training that seeks to embody the entrepreneurial dimension and focuses on training in the three core areas. As uncontrollable external forces continue to threaten the national food supply, the programme is well positioned to contribute to the achievement of food security in Trinidad and Tobago by filling the void in human capital within the agricultural sector.

Diploma in Food Technology This programme was designed for persons interested in pursuing an applied and career-oriented qualification to enable them to successfully engage in entrepreneurial activities or enter the job market. With its strong practical components integrated into most theoretical elements and its internship (work-based learning) programme, students gain real-world experiences leading to “work-ready” and highly skilled graduates. This programme aims to promote Trinidad and Tobago’s diversification thrust by building and strengthening core competencies in the food processing and manufacturing industry at the technician level to service the food and beverage sector which employs over 11,000 persons. Its focus will position or improve the level of innovation in the industry, diagnostic, food analysis and food safety capability and maintain high-quality standards while linking primary production to secondary processing in the creation of value-added products.

Diploma in Forestry The Diploma in Forestry is designed to provide training in the management and conservation of forests, parks, wildlife and the environment at the technical and mid-management positions. Graduates will be equipped to protect the forest from man and natural destruction by applying appropriate protection methods and enforcing forestry rules and regulations; assist in research activities and engage in entrepreneurial activities.

The programme aims to promote initiative, solutions and responsibility to respond to food sustainability and security needs, a matter of local and global interest. MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY The Master of Philosophy is awarded on completion of a thesis, based on innovative work, demonstrating evidence of mastery in the application of advanced techniques in the solution of a research problem, and the successful completion of a minimum of four (4) mandatory research courses and a minimum of four (4) seminars. There must be an oral defence of the Thesis.
