Aviation is a multi-billion diverse industry that encompasses a multitude of aviation positions, jobs and careers and contributes to growth in many other areas. In the Caribbean particularly, tourism hinges on airports and the airlines to deliver passengers to resort locations, corporate enterprises depend on civil aviation businesses to maintain and fuel their aircraft and to take care of their flying customers.

The TTAI which is at present a consortium of training and aviation-based organisations will eventually be formed into a formal aviation body responsible for the governance and administration of both in-class training in academic and technical areas of aviation, as well as specialised instruction and facilities for the Trinidad and Tobago Air Guard (TTAG) and other similar type training. It will also engage stakeholders involved in Aviation and add to the cluster development at Camden which includes the expansion of the airdrome, new terminal buildings, workshops and type-training facilities.

The construction of the TTAI will take place in Camden, Couva bounded on the north by lands occupied by the National Helicopter Services Limited, on the south by lands occupied by Briko Air Services, on the west by the Camden Base Road and on the east by state lands.

As the national University of Trinidad and Tobago, UTT will work through the TTAI to offer Certificate, Diploma, Degree and Professional Development courses and coordinate the operations of the TTAI working with its local aviation partners as well as other stakeholders to:

a. Offer and increase access to aviation programmes for nationals of Trinidad & Tobago.

b. Provide relevant industry training for aviation practitioners, allowing them the opportunity to obtain their various aviation licenses for the certification of aircraft.

c. Design and deliver industry relevant aviation programmes in the areas of aviation maintenance, flight and aviation safety, catering to the some of the specific needs of the aviation industry.

d. Forge closer collaborative ties with key players in the aviation industry, both locally and internationally, in programme development and research & development activities relevant to current and future needs of the sector.

UTT is aware of the importance of having qualified and certified professionals who can function within the Aviation industry with utmost efficiency and has begun and will continue to work in tandem with both local and international aviation partners to address the critical human resource challenge facing aviation stakeholders by providing a steady, strong supply of skilled, trained, licensed and competent personnel to meet the demands of the global air transportation system of the future.
