| Central American and Caribbean silver medallist, Andrew Fermin easily advanced to the final of the Open Senior Middleweight Division by defeating Declan Calliste of the University of T&T (UTT) 3-0 when the Yolande Pompey National Amateur Boxing Championships got underway on Thursday at Cosmic Gym in Marabella. Fermin will be in action again today in the second round. His opponent will be Akil Bansfield of Sand City. |
| Only three of the other fights in the preliminaries went the distance on Thursday with lightweight Jessica Phillips of Pleasantville edging clubmate Shalini Dookie 2-1, Imran Khan of Fine Line beating Mathew Charles of Cosmic and Suchit Ramcharitar of Biomel getting past Kevon Rostant of St Michael's-both winning by the same 2-1 score. |
| Dennis Miram (YTC), Anthony Durgadeen (Phoenix), Deo Charles (Golden Fist) and Corrie John (Biomel) all won their fights inside the distance with the referee stopping their respective fights. Miram (bantamweight junior novice) scored a win over Christopher Neckles of Cosmic, Durgadeen (bantamweight junior open) stopped Phillip Chang Waiof Biomel, Charles (light welterweight seniornovice) whipped Jaleel Garcia and John (middleweight senior novice) defeated Tyree Wiliams of Biomel. |
