The year 2014 marks a historic milestone for The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) as the University celebrates its tenth anniversary. As part of the roll-out of activities to commemorate this achievement, UTT has partnered with the US Embassy and Michigan State University (MSU) to bring the power of music to the people of Trinidad and Tobago through a "Big Band Concert" experience. The concert, which takes place on Saturday 1^st February, 2014 at the Lord Kitchener Auditorium, NAPA at 8:00 p.m., will feature musicians and student-performers from UTT’s Academy for the Performing Arts and Michigan State University’s Jazz Orchestra.

UTT has long promoted music literacy among the nation’s youth, especially those who are among the most vulnerable in society; a fact that was highlighted when UTT worked with other stakeholders to host the Arts & Disabilities Music Festival in 2013. Collaborating with MSU and the US Embassy on this concert is yet another avenue for UTT to bring music to various audiences. The Big Band Concert will be the culmination of a week of performances by the MSU ensemble which will see these international students visit the St Mary's and St Dominic's children’s homes as well as the Birdsong Academy.
