Dr. Linda Mohammed, Assistant Professor at The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT’s), Institute of Criminology and Public Safety (ICPS) recently had the distinct pleasure of being awarded a scholarship under the Canada/CARICOM Faculty Leadership Programme, to the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) located in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. Her time spent at UOIT was extremely rewarding, as it provided her with the opportunity to engage with scholars in her field and to establish linkages with colleagues that would foster future research collaborations on diverse criminological/psychological issues and phenomena. This experience not only provided the opportunity to deliver guest/public lectures, but to also benefit from engaging with the Research Department and the Teaching and Learning Centre. Having engaged closely over the period and having identified common areas of research interests, Dr. Mohammed and Professor Wesley Crichlow are now in the process of working on a joint research paper for submission to a peer reviewed journal for publication.

One of the highlights of Dr. Mohammed's visit, given that she conducts research with the TTPS, was establishing contact with the Director of the Durham Regional Police, who is currently sharing his expertise with her on a pilot project she is interested in implementing within the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service. She is also currently in dialogue with a Criminology faculty member whose interest is also in policing and who would like to collaborate on a joint research project. Dr. Mohammed met with the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities which was quite informative and gave her a deeper understanding of the University and their vision for the future. She also reported that the university tour was quite interesting and provided her with some innovative ideas that she is eager to share with UTT, that would definitely serve to enhance both the student and staff experience.
