The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) will be hosting its 1^st Annual Research Day: Institutional Strengthening of the Health Sector of Trinidad and Tobago on Friday 23^rd October, 2015 at the Audio Room of the National Library of Trinidad and Tobago, Hart and Abercromby Streets, Port-of-Spain from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

The vision of this Research Day is to innovate and effect change in the health care system in Trinidad and Tobago by creating a forum, for current and future leaders, to discuss issues pertinent to institutional strengthening of this crucial area.

Institutional Strengthening in Health comprises eight key components: (a) strengthening the strategy of human resources management; (b) improving essential drugs and medical supplies management strategy; (c) strengthening major public health programmes and improving quality of services; (d) improving demand, accessibility and utilisation; (e) strengthening governance and institutional capacity, including capacity for safe medical waste management; (f) ensuring adequate and equitable financing; (g) improving community participation; and (h) implementing appropriate monitoring and evaluation mechanisms regarding programme performance and ensuring good donor coordination.
