The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) continues to offer its brand of quality tertiary education throughout Trinidad and Tobago, with the launch of the UTT Scarborough - The Education Campus, on Friday 18 January, 2013.  Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago,  the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, was the Featured Speaker at the ceremony which was held under the aegis of Senator the Honourable Fazal Karim, Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training.

Other dignitaries on hand for the event included: Assemblyman Ashworth Jack, Political Leader of the Tobago Organisation of the People (TOP) and Minority Leader in the Tobago House of Assembly, the Honourable Dr. Delmon Baker, Minister of Tobago Development, Senator the Honourable Christlyn Moore, Minister of Justice, the Honourable Vernella Alleyne-Toppin, Minister in the Ministry of the People and Social Development and the Honourable Winston ‘Gypsy' Peters, Minister of Community Development.

According to the Honourable Prime Minister, "The UTT Scarborough Campus showcases the Government's commitment to increase access and participation in tertiary education and skills training throughout the nation and will be an avenue for many [Tobagonians] to be employed within various sectors such as the energy and construction [fields]". Senator the Honourable Fazal Karim and Assemblyman Ashworth Jack both detailed the significance of hydro carbon training in Tobago and the unlimited opportunities which will be present for the people of Tobago through the establishment of the UTT Scarborough - The Education Campus.

The University's future plans for the delivery of academic programmes in Tobago include:

• Marine Archaeology
• Business
• Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
• Sports
• Fashion
• Health Administration

The launch of the UTT Scarborough Campus was attended by Mr. Curtis R. Manchoon, Chairman of the Board of Governors and Mr. Kwasi Mutema, Deputy Chairman of UTT's Board of Governors as well as Dr. Fazal Ali, Acting President and Provost of UTT.  Other attendees included Chairmen of agencies under the Ministry of Tertiary Education and Skills Training and members of UTT's senior academic and corporate staff.
