Why the 'Moriche Palm'?

UTT's re-branded campuses are all adorned with depictions of the Moriche Palm. Some persons may however ask, "Why the Moriche"? For the answer to this question, one must first look at the physical attributes and geographical nature of the Moriche Palm as it relates to Trinidad and Tobago.

The Moriche Palm, also known as the "Tree of Life", is integral to the natural setting of Tamana InTech Park, the Signature Complex and Main campus of The University of Trinidad and Tobago. UTT, in its efforts to sustain the natural environment of the Tamana site, has sought to preserve much of the Moriche Palm which can be found in this region of the country. The Moriche Plam, through the years of UTT’s existence, has therefore taken on symbolic meaning.

The Moriche Palm is not only seen on the walls of UTT’s rebranded campuses, but overt references to the Palm are evident throughout the University. The University's graduation gowns are embellished with a replica of the Moriche Palm, so too does this emblem appear on the University’s branded and promotional items.

An elegant and majestic Palm that can grow to a height of 35 metres, the Moriche Palm has become synonymous with UTT.
