JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY

To provide practical support to instructional delivery through demonstrations and practical supervision in the area of workshop technology/mechanical engineering.  The incumbent will be expected to prepare and oversee practical workshop exercises in support of courses within the Diploma in Maritime Operations programme.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supports the Instructor by providing practical demonstration of workshop exercises.
• Supports the Instructor by assessing and grading practical workshop assignments.
• Maintains register of students in the practical workshops in accordance with the requirements of the Quality Management System of UTT Chaguaramas campus.
• Provides regular and timely feedback to students regarding workshop assignments.
• Coordinates the procurement and inventory of tools, parts and consumables for workshop activities.
• Demonstrates proper use of workshop tools, machinery and safety equipment.
• Supervises students in hands-on activities such as engine maintenance and machining.
• Maintains a safe and organised workshop environment compliant with health, safety and environmental standards.
• Inspects, maintains and calibrates workshop equipment and training aids regularly.
• Enforces safety protocols, ensuring students use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following risk assessment procedures.
• Performs any other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• NETD (or higher qualification) in Mechanical Engineering.
• Craftsman Certificate in machining and fitting.
• Minimum of three (3) years’ relevant working experience.
