Senior Instructor - Classroom Assessment and Science

JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY

To contribute to the intellectual life of the Unit and the wider institution.  To demonstrate excellence in the development and design of teaching, research and service; and to assist with operational supervision and functional direction to junior and support staff.  

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching

  • Lectures and develops course materials and assigns projects.
  • Grades and assesses student learning outcomes.
  • Supervises junior and support staff and performs academic advising.
  • Delivers training as and when required.
  • Assists in developing class schedules.
  • Participates in curriculum and programme development.
  • Provides regular and timely feedback to students.
  • Provides instructions for and during practical activities (field practice, field trips, laboratory assignments and other non-class activities)

Research

  • Conducts research in a particular field of knowledge and publishes findings in professionaljournals.
  • Attends and makes presentations at conferences.
  • Submits grant applications to support the University's goals in consultation with the Programme Head / other Academic Staff and the University's office responsible for grantfunding.
  • Engages in peer review activities as required.
  • Stays current in related disciplines through involvement in professional organisations,workshops, etc.

Service

  • Participates in the Personal Tutor programme (or acts as a personal tutor where required).
  • Participates in various committees at the University, as well as provides service to the widercommunity through workshops, seminars, public lectures, and professional consulting services to government and industry

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A Master's degree in Measurement and Evaluation; OR Educational Assessment
  • A Bachelor's degree in a science subject area; OR a Bachelor's degree in Education with specialisation in Science from an accredited and recognised University/ProfessionalInstitution
  • A minimum of 5 years' teaching/research/industry experience
  • A Teacher's Diploma in Education (required in the absence of Bachelor of Education)
