JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY
To provide operational supervision and functional direction in the area of maritime operations by developing, preparing and delivering high quality education and training courses forming part of the Diploma in Maritime Operations and the BSc in Nautical Science/Maritime Operations programme.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching
-
Lectures and develops course materials and assigns projects.

Grades and assesses student learning outcomes.

Supervises junior and support staff and performs academic advising.

Delivers training as and when required.

Maintains class registers and student achievement records in accordance with the requirements of the Quality Management System of the Chaguaramas Campus.

Participates in curriculum and programme development.

Provides regular and timely feedback to students.
Research
-
Conducts research in a particular field of knowledge and publishes findings in professional journals.

Attends and makes presentations at conferences.

Submits grant applications to support the University's goals in consultation with Programme Head or other Academic Staff and the University's office responsible for grant funding.

Engages in peer review activities as required.

Stays current in related discipline through involvement in professional organizations, workshops, etc.
Service
-
Participates in the Personal Tutor programme (or acts as a personal tutor where required).

Participates in various committees at the University as well as provides service to the wider community through workshops, seminars, public lectures, and professional consulting services to government and industry.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Master Mariner Unlimited Licence Class 1 (STCW Reg. II/2)

MSc in Operational Maritime Management, International Maritime Business or equivalent qualifications (will be considered an asset)

Tanker Experience at the Management Level (will be considered an asset)

Minimum of five (5) years' teaching/research/industry experience
