In a history-making event, four (4) final year students of The University of Trinidad and Tobago’s (UTT’s) Bachelor of Education with specialisation in Social Studies programme, attended the recently concluded 99th International Conference of the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS), held in Austin, Texas.
The Conference offered these pre-service teachers the opportunity to participate in workshops and attend lectures, thereby gaining exposure to cutting-edge research. The NCSS Annual Conference is the largest annual gathering of K-12 Social Studies classroom teachers, college and university faculty members, curriculum designers and specialists, district and state Social Studies supervisors and international educators.

At this Conference, Dr. Patricia Sealy, Assistant Professor, Centre for Education Programmes (CEP) at UTT, the organising lecturer, presented a research paper in collaboration with Professor Dr. Guichun Zong of Suwanee, Georgia, entitled, “Teaching the Caribbean in an Era of Globalisation: An Inquiry Approach.”
