UTT at Panama Maritime Conference XIII

The MTCC- Caribbean team from The University of Trinidad and Tobago participated in the Panama Maritime XIII World Conference and Exhibition held from 13th - 14th March, 2017. This Conference was held parallel to the Environmental Sustainable Shipping Industry Conference (ESSIC), which highlighted the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) response to the needs of developing countries for building capacity and facilitating technology transfer to promote low-carbon shipping. ​Mrs. Vivian Rambarath-Parasram, Captain Sukhjit Singh and Mr. Stephan Nanan participated on behalf of MTCC-Caribbean. MTCC-Caribbean, the first centre to be established, was officially launched on March 8th, 2017 at the UTT Chaguaramas Campus.

These Conferences at Panama provided the platform to showcase the various programmes and research areas currently pursued by UTT and served to increase its visibility. Assistant Professor, Vivian Rambarath-Parasram, Director and Head of the MTCC-Caribbean co-presented with IMO’s Dr. Jose Matheickal (Chief Technical Advisor (GloBallast) and Head, ITCP Implementation and Major Projects. The presentation highlighted the role of UTT as Host Institution and the vision for the MTCC for the Caribbean region.
