UTT Patriots Table Tennis Coach, Aleena Edwards, was crowned champion of the Insurance Company of the West Indies (ICWI) Silver Bowl Table Tennis Championship in the Women's Open category on June 3, 2023.

Edwards defeated her niece, Imani Edwards-Taylor, who is also a UTT Patriots student-athlete in four (4) sets (11-5, 11-5, 5-11, 13-11) to take home the championship title for the second time in two (2) years.

In the quarterfinals, Edwards came from behind to take down Ambika Sitram 11-9, 12-10, 11-7 after losing the first set 11-13. From there, she dominated in the semi-finals winning in just three (3) sets (11-9, 11-9, 11-9) versus long-time rival Linda Partap-Boodhan to earn her place in the title match.

It was a feeling of déjà vu as both Edwards and Edwards-Taylor also squared off in last year’s final of the ICWI tournament. In that encounter, Edwards defeated her opponent 11-9, 5-11, 11-8, 2-11, 12-10.

This is the third consecutive title Edwards has captured in recent major national tournaments.
