Diploma in Software Engineering

Description:

The Diploma in Software Engineering programme provides a platform for employment that utilizes computer hardware, software and networking technologies. Graduates develop skills in Programming, Database Management, Software Application Development, Web Application Development, and Software Application Security.  Graduates may be eligible for direct access to any of UTT’s Engineering bachelor degree programmes. This programme is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer.

Entry Requirements:

  • Passes in a minimum of five (5) subjects at CSEC (CXC O'Level) General Proficiency in Grades I or II and from 1998, Grade III or equivalent GCE O'Levels including Grades A, B or C in Mathematics, English Language; OR
  • Completion of UTT's Pre-University Programme (PUP) or Certificate in Applied Engineering programme with a minimum of 50% in ALL attempted subject areas; OR
  • Other equivalent qualifications may also be considered.
  • CompTIA, Microsoft, MIT Online courses and IBM certifications will be acknowledged for entry.  

NB: Passes in CSEC (CXC O'Level) Additional Mathematics and Physics will be an asset.  

Mature Student Entry:

An applicant who does not satisfy all the stipulated minimum academic or technical qualifications for admission to the programme may be accepted as a Mature Student. He/she would need to possess the critical elements of the stipulated qualification and would be assessed by the UTT Programme Leader as possessing a combination of qualifications and educational or experiential maturity to enable him/her to successfully participate in the programme.

To be considered for mature entry into the programme the following criteria will be used:

  • Age (At least 25 years of age)
  • Relevant Work Experience (At least 5 years work experience in the field)
  • Pass in Mathematics (Must possess CXC/ CSEC (or equivalent) pass in Mathematics)
