Academic Unit: CMOS - Maritime Studies

Ms Suzette Balkaran, is currently a Senior Instructor at the Centre for Maritime and Ocean Studies/Maritime Studies Unit at the University of Trinidad and Tobago. It is from the esteemed University that she has received all her education, training and qualifications.

She is a Maritime Engineer and Educator who dedicates her time to champion efforts to decarbonize the Maritime industry and encourage more women to join this exciting career path.

She also supports the Maritime Technology Cooperation Centre for the Caribbean in the capacity of the Energy Efficiency Advisor, embarking on several international research projects and capacity building initiatives, throughout the region.

Ms. Balkaran also holds the position of Vice President of Research and Development for the Women in Maritime Association of the Caribbean and is also the Secretary for the Trinidad and Tobago Maritime Officer's Association, which allows her to actively mentor young minds in the field.

She is a proud mother of one son, Stellan, and today she has dedicated this award to him, as well as all her students who have been her biggest support and motivation throughout her journey.
