POWERGEN presents Scholarships and Bursaries to U&SE Students

The Utilities and Sustainable Engineering (U&SE) Unit held its 2nd Annual Students' Awards Ceremony on Thursday 22 August, 2024 at UTT Point Lisas Campus.

The Power Generation Company of Trinidad and Tobago (POWERGEN) awarded four (4) outstanding students of the Unit, scholarships and bursaries in recognition of their excellence in academic performance, attitude, work ethic and extracurricular activities.

The Programme Leader of the U&SE Unit, Dr Miguel Jagessar opened the ceremony, reciting the wise words of Greek philosopher, Aristotle:

"Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives - choice, not chance, determines your destiny."

He highlighted that the awardees would have chosen to work hard and be disciplined in the conduct of their studies. Dr Jagessar and the U&SE Unit look forward to fostering the relationship between POWERGEN and UTT, whereby industry relevant projects can be developed for the Diploma, Bachelors and forthcoming Masters and Doctoral students. This will enable students to be better prepared for industry.  He is optimistic that through this relationship more apprenticeship and internship programmes can be developed.
