Shri Rana Mohip was born in Trinidad and Tobago and began playing harmonium and singing at the age of nine (9) and is today one of Trinidad’s leading musicians. In 1987 he received a scholarship to pursue Hindustani Classical Music in India and began initial training at the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya under the tutelage of Pt. Vinaya Chandra Maudgalya. In 1989 he completed a Bachelors Degree (B.A.) in Music with First Division honours and in 1994 he completed his M.A. once again securing First Division Honours under the tutelage of Shri Vinod Kumar and Shri Madhup Mudgal.
 
Whilst in India, Ranaji performed at many prestigious music festivals and was featured regularly on all Indian radio and television stations. He also had the honour of performing alongside many renowned artistes of India including Pt. Jasraj, Pt. Rajan and Sajan Mishra, Shri Madhup Mudgal, Anup Jalota and Hari Om Sharan.
 
He has toured extensively and recorded numerous CDs that reflect his creativity and techniques in music. In 2006 he launched The Sargam International Orchestra. He is the programme leader of APA programmes at the UTT Campus at SAPA and past chairman of the Management Committee of the National Academy for the Performing Arts, South Campus.
