The APA Pan Fellowship is a ground-breaking programme offering participants a culturally immersive and practical learning environment, infused with the traditions of steelpan in the broader context of indigenous percussion and pan-Caribbean music. The fellowship strives to produce well-rounded practitioners, familiar with the community-building qualities of pan and the cultural connectivity inherent in its heritage.  This programme is intended for musicians and professionals who seek a culturally immersive and all-encompassing scholastic experience based on the steelpan in the following areas:

• History of Steelband
• Pan Tuning
• Carnival Immersion
• Ensemble
• Rhythms of the Engine Room
• Internship
• Arranging Music for Steelpan and more

Entry Requirements:

Applications will be invited from those already in a recognised programme of study in Trinidad and Tobago, the Caricom region or internationally. Application will also be open within the Advanced Fellowship programme to those who demonstrate advanced proficiency in steelpan and/or percussion and hold position or authority in the music industry wheresoever they may be based.

Essential:

• Demonstrable musical proficiency at advanced level (HE Level 1 or above);
• Fluency in English, written and spoken.
• Functional numeracy.

Description

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Digital Media Arts programme has been developed for students with a passion for animation, music technology or game art who want a hands-on, industry-oriented programme, supported by a curriculum that is geared toward the international industry, values our national and regional cultural context and has a strong practical emphasis. It will provide a pathway to new opportunities and encourage students to acquire critical skills locally.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Media Arts is offered with specialisations in:

1. Animation
2. Music Technology
3. Game Art

The students of the programme will be equipped to independently perform idea development, design, execute, produce, and complete the delivery of complex media projects for local and global mass media, utilizing industry standard practices andprocedures.

Entry Requirements:

• Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination CAPE LEVELS I and II with grade 3 and above a minimum of two (2) subjects. Applicants with Advanced Level OR both CAPE LEVEL I and CAPE LEVEL II passes in Animation and Game Design, Art and Design, Digital Media, Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology, Performing Arts, and Mathematics, may be eligible for certain exemptions.  General Paper or Communication Studies would be an asset to applicants. Applicants should also normally have attained five (5) CSEC OR five (5) ORDINARY LEVEL passes including English, Mathematics, and a Science or Art subject at Grades I or II and from 1998 Grade III or equivalent

OR

• Passes in a minimum of five (5) CSEC OR five (5) ORDINARY LEVEL passes including English, Mathematics, and a Science or Art subject at Grades I or II and from 1998 Grade III or equivalent; AND
• UTT Certificate in Music Technology 

OR

• Passes in a minimum of five (5) CSEC OR five (5) ORDINARY LEVEL passes including English, Mathematics, and a Science or Art subject at Grades I or II and from 1998 Grade III or equivalent; AND
• UTT Diploma in Animation Studies

OR

• Relevant HND, Advanced or Associate Degree in a related field.

Mature Student Entry:

An applicant who does not satisfy all the stipulated minimum academic or technical qualifications for admission to the programme may be accepted as a Mature Student. He/she would need to possess the critical elements of the stipulated qualification and would be assessed by the UTT Programme Head as possessing a combination of qualifications and educational or experiential maturity to enable him/her to successfully participate in the programme.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in the Performing Arts is a full-time four-year programme of multidisciplinary study for those aspiring to a career in the Performing Arts or in Arts Education. The aspiring artist will have the opportunity to experience a range of courses in Acting, Dance, Technical Theatre Design and Music. Building on a foundation of common and core courses in performance, culture and entrepreneurship, students engage in courses from across the programme to create an educational and artistic pathway that incorporates a combination of studio exploration, practical rehearsal projects and staged theatrical presentations.

Students are introduced to a range acting theories and techniques in Theatre History, Script Analysis and Play Directing. In addition they will also experience a diversity of dance styles including Classical Ballet, Classical Indian, Modern and Contemporary forms, while placing emphasis on Caribbean Folk Dance and a Caribbean aesthetic. Furthermore, students get the opportunity to explore wide-ranging techniques which develop strong body-awareness, vocal skills and imagination.

Each of the four academic years is divided into two semesters, with a Production and Performance period at the culmination of each year. BFA students enjoy:

Having earned the required 120 credits, students will be awarded a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the Performing Arts. Each student will be mentored by a faculty member throughout the programme of study, up to and including a 12-credit Capstone project in the final year. A graduate of the BFA in the Performing Arts programme will be a confident artist, equipped with the skills and mind set to succeed in the Creative Industries. Carefully designed Education courses within programme help students prepare for careers in classroom teaching.

In the Music Specialisation students interact with some of the finest musicians in Trinidad and Tobago and learn a broad range of performing and pedagogical skills. Graduates of this programme specialisation have embarked on careers not only as performers, composers and arrangers, but also as instrumental instructors, mainstream and special needs teachers as well as music therapists and entrepreneurs.

Studying music at APA is a transformative process, combining intensive instrumental/vocal instruction with group classes under the guidance of a diverse and inspiring faculty. Students enjoy regular performance opportunities and also take inspiration from guest artists and artists-in-residence. The programme is taught over two semesters from September to May, culminating in an annual Production and Performance period.
