Description

The Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education programme is designed for persons to gain qualifications at the Certificate level, which would provide them with the required competencies to support young children’s development and learning.

The programme also allows for progression from the Certificate to Degree, as students who successfully complete the Certificate programme can matriculate and receive credit towards the Bachelor of Education degree – Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) specialisation programme.

Entry Requirements:

• Passes in a minimum of five (5) subjects at CSEC (CXC O' Level) General Proficiency in Grades I or II and from 1998, Grade III or equivalent GCE O'Levels including Grades A, B or C inclusive of Mathematics, English Language and a Science subject;

Mature Entry:

An applicant who does not satisfy all the stipulated minimum academic or technical qualifications for admission to a programme may be accepted as a Mature Student. He/she would need to possess the critical elements of the stipulated qualification and would be assessed by the UTT Programme Head as possessing a combination of qualifications and educational or experiential maturity to enable him/her to successfully participate in the programme

N.B. Must be in possession of a Police Certificate of Good Character (or produce a copy of the Official Receipt for a Police Certificate of Good Character pending the submission of the certificate).

Additional Criteria for Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Care and Education Specialisation 

Early Childhood Care and Education 

• Currently employed as an Early Childhood Care Assistant Teacher or Facilitator 
• Must be in possession of a Police Certificate of Good Character 

NB: Consideration of credit exemptions will be given to persons already possessing a Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education. 

Mature Entry:

Mature students with Associate degrees or Diplomas in related specialisations would receive favourable consideration. Also taken into consideration are: 

1. Teachers who have at least three years of experience with teaching in schools, based locally, regionally, or internationally. 
2. Teachers with five and more years of experience teaching at the primary level in public or private schools based locally, regionally, or internationally.

Description

The Postgraduate Diploma in Education is a one-year part-time teacher preparation programme for both in-service and pre-service teachers who already hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in several academic domains necessary for teaching in the Trinidad and Tobago education system. These domains range from Mathematics and Science, to disciplines in the Humanities including Social Studies, History, Geography, Sociology and other related fields.

Entry Requirements:

• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
• An undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
• Experiential and lifelong learning may be considered if there is a GPA deficiency,
• Statement of purpose clearly indicating that the proposed diploma is appropriate to the applicant's professional aspirations

Mature Entry:

An applicant who does not satisfy all the stipulated minimum academic qualifications for admission to the programme, based on years of experience and the ability to achieve the level of programme learning, may be accepted as a mature student. A petition should be submitted to the Centre for Education Programmes detailing the experience and qualifications in lieu of the required GPA.

The Master of Education in Educational Technology is a professional degree signifying advanced knowledge and training in educational technology practice. This programme is aimed at enhancing and refining the instructional skills and leadership abilities in a technology environment, of teachers and administrators. It is designed for persons who wish to explore careers as education software/games developers; E-Learning consultants; educational video producers; instructional designers; technology support specialists; teachers; web and/or multimedia designers; distance learning developers; content development specialist; and learning management systems developers.

Entry Requirements:

Applicants desirous of entering this Programme must possess:

• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
• An undergraduate grade point average (gpa) of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher 
• A cGPA of 3.0 on any previous graduate work. Experiential and lifelong learning may be considered if there is a cGPA deficiency 
• A minimum of two letters of recommendation, which on the whole, clearly reflect professional success and predict academic success at the graduate level 
• Statement of purpose clearly indicating that the proposed master’s degree is appropriate to the applicant's professional aspirations 
• Students may be required to complete an interview with faculty members of the Centre for Education Programmes

The Master of Philosophy is awarded on completion of a thesis, based on innovative work, demonstrating evidence of mastery in the application of advanced techniques in the solution of a research problem, and the successful completion of a minimum of four (4) mandatory research courses and a minimum of four (4) seminars. There must be an oral defence of the Thesis. 

Taught courses are offered online. Meetings relating to supervisor directed courses are held using communication applications such as Zoom or MS Teams. Special arrangements may be made for laboratory and personal interaction, should the need arise, in keeping with existing health protocols.

Entry Requirements:

• Persons holding a Taught Master’s Degree from an approved university with a B average or equivalent GPA. 
• Persons holding a Bachelor’s degree from an approved university with a B+ average, or Upper Second-Class Honors or equivalent GPA. 
• Persons with other professional qualifications and industrial or business experience deemed to be suitable by the Board of Postgraduate Studies and Research.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees are awarded on the basis of a Dissertation based on original research, together with successful completion of a minimum of four (4) mandatory research courses and four (4) seminars. The written Dissertation report must provide documentation of a significant original contribution to the body of knowledge in the area of study and an oral defence of the Dissertation.
