Professor David Alexander is the current Programme Leader of the Energy Systems Engineering Unit at The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) since 2014. He is also a consultant in the areas of Energy and the Environment having worked on several projects in the region. He holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Chemistry/Analytical Chemistry and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Petroleum Engineering from the University of the West Indies, an M.Sc. in Information and Communication Technology with specialisation in Software Engineering from The University of Trinidad and Tobago, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in the field of Petroleum Engineering from UTT in collaboration with the University of Texas at Austin.
He has further training with the Computer Modelling Group (a reservoir engineering software), Renewable Energy, Judicial Writing from the University of Nevada and Environmental Mediation from Vermont Law School. Professor Alexander currently leads research in the areas of Enhanced Oil Recovery, Carbon Capture and Storage and Waste Management among other areas. He has over 50 publications with over 30 published in international journals.
Professor Alexander served as a member of the Environmental Commission of Trinidad & Tobago (ECTT), Director of New Opportunities of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and Director of Continuing Education (SPETT), member of the Global Training Committee of the Society of Petroleum Engineers International (SPEI) and Membership and Education Advisor in the Energy Institute UK (Caribbean Branch).
He received from the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), the Regional Sustainability and Stewardship in the Oil and Gas Industry Award for Latin America and Caribbean Region in 2021, and the Distinguished Achievement Award for Petroleum Engineering Faculty for Latin America and Caribbean Region in 2023.
