Academic Unit: Institute for Criminology and Public Safety

Miss Vidya Lall is a Senior Instructor at the Institute of Criminology and Public Safety, and has been attached to the University of Trinidad and Tobago since 2007.

She completed the B.A. and M.Phil. degrees with specialization in Sociology and Criminology at The University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine Campus.

Her current teaching portfolio includes Sociology of the Caribbean, Workplace Safety and Violence, Restorative Justice, and Green Criminology.

Together with her colleagues at the Institute, she serves as Academic Supervisor and Personal Tutor for several students.

She has also taught and provided teaching support for courses such as Children and Crime, School Violence and Delinquency, Crime Prevention and Community Safety, Community Policing, and Gangs, Youth Violence and Public Safety.

Her current research and special interest areas include: Refugees, Migrants and Persons on the Move in the Caribbean; Green Crimes, Environmental Governance and Security in Small Island Developing States (SIDS); and Crime Prevention, Community and Citizen Security.

In addition to her teaching and research portfolio, Ms Lall also has served as the Managing Editor of her Institute's quarterly newsletter 'Spotlight on Crime and Public Safety' since 2020 which is circulated internationally.

Miss Lall was the Programme Level Winner for the EiTA in 2021, and has copped this award once again for the second cycle in 2023.
