Seminar on Agriculture Disaster Mitigation and Climate Change Capacity

Mr. Lakshman Lochan, Instructor, Biosciences, Agriculture and Food Technology, UTT, participated in the Seminar on Agriculture Disaster Mitigation and Climate Change Capacity for the Belt and Road Partner Countries hosted by the Foreign Economic Cooperation Center, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the Government of the People's Republic of China in May 2024.

The seminar commenced in Beijing, China, with a series of Lectures delivered by Professors from various academic institutions such as Jingwa Agricultural Science and Technology Center, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Anhui Agricultural University, there focus being on the Impacts, Adaptation Techniques and Risk Management of Climate Change to China's Policies and Experiences in Agriculture and Rural Development.

Mr. Lochan had the opportunity to visit a number of Agriculture Science and Technology Innovation Centers with emphasis on Water-Saving Technologies, Agriculture Seed Development for Drought Mitigation Techniques and explored Smart Technologies for Livestock and Poultry Farming.

Mr. Lochan also visited, Hefei City, capital of Anhui Province, home to China Speech Valley, the first national-level artificial intelligence industrial park and China's first National High-tech Industry Development Zone. Here, Mr. Lochan visited a number of Smart Green Houses and Climate Controlled Ecosystem facilities, where he explored Smart Technologies used in Rice, Blueberry and Tea planting industries where the use of these technologies co-existed harmoniously with the beautiful countryside of cities such as Wuhu and Lu'an Cities and Changfeng and Wuwei Counties among other towns, all of Anhui Province.

Being the sole representative from the Western Hemisphere, Mr. Lochan proudly represented UTT and Trinidad and Tobago, by participating in academic discussions, and presenting a National Country Report for the Belt and Road participating countries. Mr. Lochan was also treated to Chinese culture and hospitality, where he visited famous sites such as the Great Wall of China, and the Anhui Museum.
