The University of Trinidad and Tobago's (UTT) Outreach and Industry Relations Unit recently facilitated an intensive training engagement titled "Advances in Mining Technology and Mineral Supply - Explosives and Blasting Engineering" for nationals of Trinidad and Tobago. The participants were representatives of security agencies.

The programme was facilitated by Professor Herbert Sukhu, assisted by Ms Keisha Whittaker, and provided participants with critical skills and hands-on expertise in explosives engineering, blast design, and quarry operations.

Participants gained knowledge in the art, science, and engineering principles behind surface and subsurface blasting for engineering works in quarries. A key focus was on precision rock breakage, ensuring optimal fragmentation while adhering to safety and environmental protocols.

This specialised training underscores UTT Outreach's commitment to industry-relevant competencies by bridging the gap between theory and practical execution.
