The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) extends its sincere appreciation to Trinidad Cement Limited (TCL) for its continued partnership and recent generous financial donation.
TCL's contribution will directly benefit financially disadvantaged students enrolled in engineering, manufacturing, and entrepreneurship programmes, aligned with the cement and construction industries.
During the cheque presentation ceremony hosted at TCL's Claxton Bay office, Professor Rean Maharaj, Acting Vice President of Research, Academic and Student Affairs, UTT expressed gratitude for TCL's steadfast support of the University. He noted TCL's sustained involvement through fundraising initiatives, sporting events and academic scholarship programmes. "We thank TCL for once again partnering with us to make education and skills training more accessible to the next generation of professionals, particularly those facing financial hardship", stated Professor Maharaj.
Professor Maharaj also reiterated UTT's commitment to expanding collaboration with TCL in areas such as materials science research, environmental sustainability, and workforce development. "By working together, we can drive innovation, enhance efficiency, and make meaningful contributions to the growth of Trinidad and Tobago's construction and infrastructure sectors," he added.
In a symbolic gesture of appreciation, UTT presented a miniature steelpan to Mr Gonzalo Rueda Castillo, General Manager of TCL, reflecting the shared commitment to local excellence and cultural heritage. In his remarks, Mr Castillo underscored TCL's dedication to national manufacturing and the vital role that education plays in achieving economic diversification.
"This collaboration aligns with our vision for local development and merges industry experience with academia to support future professionals and entrepreneurs." He added, "We are pleased to partner with UTT again and expect significant achievements from the students in this programme."
