On Monday 19 May, 2025 The University of Trinidad and Tobago's (UTT) Academy for the Performing Arts provided an educational and entertaining afternoon for students of St Francis Boys' College in Belmont. The visit featured an interactive performance from one of the steelpan ensembles under the direction of Mr Seion Gomez.
Jamila Atwell, a final-year student, hosted the performance creating interactive elements, as part of her Teaching Artist Capstone project, a course led by Associate Professor Caitlyn Kamminga.
Students from St Francis Boys College were invited to be part of a judging panel, and expressed their thoughts on the performance as well as answer questions on the steelpan. They were also exposed to the opportunities on offer at UTT Campus at NAPA, only a short walk away.
UTT is grateful to Massy Ltd for supporting this event and enable our steelpan ensembles to visit schools. This programme will be expanding further in the next academic year.
