Under the blazing sun, UTT's annual Students' Sports Day took place on Friday 21 March, 2025 at UTT San Fernando Campus. All nine campuses were represented, making their presence seen, felt and heard. Special recognition goes to students from UTT Tobago Campus, who made the inter-island trip despite challenging circumstances.

For the past three (3) years, students and staff have congregated at the same location; however, this year, they competed on a brand-new turf grass surface - a project undertaken by UTT's Chief Groundsman Mr Shaker Mano. This fresh playing field set the stage for many exciting changes throughout the day's proceedings.

The opening ceremony marked the first of several significant changes. Those in attendance were welcomed by Professor Stephen Joseph, President (Ag.), UTT, making his debut to the podium.  Secondly, there was a change in Executive Student Guild, with Ajay Balkissoon serving as its new President.

Staff were not limited to being traditional spectators as in past years, but were able to actively compete. This positive change saw nine (9) members of staff, including the President and Professor Rean Maharaj, VP RASA (Ag.), participate in the Male Staff Obstacle race, a first for the University. The Female Staff Obstacle race, exceeded capacity, with sixteen (16) ladies putting friendships and shoes aside to compete for the fun bragging rights and the ultimate prize of two (2) airline tickets to Tobago. Congratulations to Randell Patterson, Technical Assistant, Aviation, and Chronna Khan, Administrative Assistant II, Undergraduate Studies, as winners of Male and Female Staff Obstacle Races, respectively.

The most significant change of the day was the title of Campus Champion. After years of dominance by ECIAF Raging Bulls, the title went to the San Fernando Drillers who won by a mere difference of 7.5 points. Full results are as follows:

  • San Fernando Drillers
  • ECIAF Raging Bulls
  • John D Knights
  • Tamana Lions
  • Camden Eagles
  • Point Lisas Energy Giants
  • Chaguaramas Sharks
  • APA Phoenix
  • Tobago Wolves

Some customs remained unchanged however, with the APA contingent showing consistency, and proving they are truly students of the Performing Arts, claiming the March Past Champion Trophy with creativity and flair.

This year's UTT Students' Sports Day had high attendance, and was well-supported and filled with comaraderie and excitement. It remains a highlight on the University calendar, eagerly anticipated by staff and students alike.
