We all have dreams, and even in the "area of darkness" that defines visual limitations or blindness, the dream of being a pilot or sitting in the cockpit of an aircraft still abounds. On Wednesday 19 March, 2025, UTT Camden Campus welcomed members of the San Fernando faction of the Blind Welfare Association for a special visit.

The visitors had the unique pleasure of exploring aviation through touch, feeling components of the aircraft such as the engines, propellers, and helicopter rotors. They also experienced sitting in the cockpit of a Boeing 727, feeling the controls, and imagining the thrill of flight.

Following discussions with members of the Association and recognising the need for sensitivity training, plans are underway to integrate a component of Sensitivity Awareness into the mandatory Human Factors and Limitations Courses for Aviation Engineers. Members of the Association have volunteered to provide these lectures.

Additionally, our Research Agenda will explore global perspectives on the inclusion of differently-abled individuals in the aviation industry, specifically those with visual impairments, and identify areas within the Aviation Value Chain where they can be engaged.

This visit served as a powerful reminder to be more compassionate toward those in our society who face greater challenges. The joy we witnessed on their faces will be cherished, and we are certain that these memories will stay with them forever. We were reminded that "They Dream Too."
