UTT Patriots Cricket student-athlete, Zakilon Beckles, has been selected as the captain of the North East Zone Under-17 Cricket team, currently participating in the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) Under-17 Inter-Zonal tournament.

The tournament commenced its first round on Wednesday 12 March, 2025 with four (4) matches held across Trinidad and Tobago. The North East contingent matched up against Tobago’s zonal team at the Shaw Park Recreation Grounds in their opening match, winning by two hundred and fifty-six (256) runs.

Beckles secured a half-century, scoring fifty-one (51) runs from forty (43) balls, which included four (4) fours and two (2) sixes. Additionally, he took one (1) of the ten (10) wickets during Tobago’s innings, with the team bowling out their opponents for 94 in 32.5 overs.

The UTT Patriots currently has four (4) other players selected for the zonal teams of the tournament at different divisions. Christian O’Connor is a part of the East Zone Under-17 team. At the same time, Michael Ramdass (Tobago), Keil Ross (Tobago), and Mikkel Mentor (South West) have all been selected for the various zones in the under-19 category. Ross has also been named Vice Captain of the Tobago contingent.

The TTCB Inter-Zonal tournament creates an additional platform to evaluate player performances for future national selection and participation in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars tournaments.
