In mid-2024, The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) and the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service (TTFS) formalised a strategic partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This collaboration establishes a foundation for mutual support, knowledge exchange, and capacity building, aimed at enhancing the operational capabilities of both institutions.
The first priority under this partnership is to assist TTFS in the successful implementation of its long-term strategic plan, which seeks to improve the fire service's efficiency, effectiveness, and overall operational capacity. UTT is providing expertise by integrating academic insights with practical solutions, aligning cutting-edge research with the day-to-day needs of the TTFS. To oversee the successful execution of these initiatives, a specialised committee was established, comprising four key members from UTT : Mr Stacey Cateau, Mr Kyle Hannays and Mr. Ravi Lutchman from the Centre for Kinesiology, Physical Education, and Sport (CKPES), together with Dr Jason Stafford from the Quality Assurance and Institutional Effectiveness (QAIE) Department. This diverse team is working hand in hand with TTFS leadership, focusing on the critical areas of personnel development, community based fire safety education and refining operational processes.
Ultimately, the partnership aims to strengthen TTFS's service delivery, helping it become a more dynamic, responsive, and efficient institution. Through this collaboration, UTT is playing a pivotal role in the transformation of TTFS, contributing to its evolution as a modern and well-equipped fire service ready to meet the challenges of the future.
