Mrs Monica Boodhan, Senior Instructor, Foundations and Prior Learning, UTT, received two full grants from the Government of the People’s Republic of China, to complete extensive specialised training in renewable energy technologies.

During the Wind Energy Technology for Developing Countries seminar held virtually in August 2023, Mrs Boodhan was asked to deliver an academic presentation entitled Energy Status - Trinidad and Tobago on behalf of Trinidad and Tobago’s participants, and was selected to deliver the closing speech on behalf of all participants. She also delivered the closing speech in China for the Clean Energy Application Technology for Developing Countries Workshop later that year.

As the only representative from the Western Hemisphere, Mrs Boodhan proudly represented UTT and Trinidad and Tobago, by leading academic discussions, and presenting a strategic plan to chart the way for further collaboration among the participating countries. Mrs Boodhan was also treated to Chinese culture and hospitality, as hosts took her to several provinces where she visited famous sites including the Guinness World Record-holding largest photovoltaic (PV) power station in the Kubuqi Desert, Inner Mongolia, a Giant Panda reserve, the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City, the Birds Nest, Tiananmen Square, and many more iconic, educational locations.

After returning home, Mrs Boodhan was invited by His Excellency Fang Qiu, Chinese Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, to the reception celebrating the Third China-Trinidad and Tobago Friendship Day in October. She is also part of the special China-Trinidad and Tobago Alumni.
