The Scholarship Selection Committee for the Intra-Caribbean Academic Mobility Programme (ICAMP) has awarded a scholarship to Ms. Christine L. A. Warren, a national of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the 1st year student of the Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Cybersecurity at UTT.
ICAMP is the Intra-Caribbean Academic Mobility Programme, a Cooperation and Mobility Programme in higher education funded by the Delegation of the European Union to Barbados, the Eastern Caribbean States, the OECS and CARICOM/CARIFORUM. The scholarship programme comprises a taught component and a six-month internship, to be completed outside the recipient’s home country. This scholarship will cover Ms. Warren’s tuition fees, a round-trip and a six-month stipend for an overseas internship programme. It is also one of fifteen full-time Masters scholarships offered through the programme in the Caribbean.
This year, among the programmes considered were the Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Food Security and M.Sc. in Data Science from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Mona and Cave Hill campuses, as well as the M.Sc. in Cybersecurity from The University of Trinidad and Tobago.
The M.Sc. in Cybersecurity at UTT is the first and only programme of its kind in the Caribbean. It is multi-disciplinary and provides a strong foundation and hands-on skills in areas such as hacking, digital forensics, management, law, and psychology. Accredited by the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) based in the UK, students of this programme can choose one of two options; Hacking and Cybercrime Investigation or Cybersecurity Management, Law and Policy. With the increasing dependence on digital technology and the interconnectivity that today’s networks bring, it is critical to have persons adequately trained in the field of cybersecurity.
Ms. Warren aims to become proficient at securing networks, defending against and recovering from malicious attacks.
