The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) reaffirmed its commitment to national development, innovation and industry collaboration during the opening of the APETT Technical Conference 2026. Delivering remarks on behalf of the University, Professor Rean Maharaj, Acting President, UTT, commended the Association of Professional Engineers of Trinidad and Tobago (APETT) for its continued leadership in advancing the engineering profession and fostering critical discussions on sustainability, resilience and technological transformation.
Addressing the Conference theme "Engineering Our Future: Sustainable, Smart, Resilient", Professor Maharaj emphasised the vital role engineering plays in addressing climate vulnerability, infrastructure demands and rapid technological change. He also highlighted UTT’s growing focus on artificial intelligence, digital transformation, applied research and industry-driven programmes designed to prepare graduates to contribute meaningfully to national and regional development.
The University extended best wishes for a successful conference and encouraged participants to engage in meaningful dialogue, share knowledge, and focus on practical solutions to shape a sustainable and resilient future for Trinidad and Tobago.
