The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) recently welcomed regional scholarship recipients to the Centre for Maritime Studies (CMOS) at UTT Chaguaramas Campus. The students, who are marine and environmental professionals, are currently pursuing a Master of Science in Integrated Coastal and Ocean Management (ICOM).
The scholarship is facilitated through a partnership between the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States Commission and The University of Trinidad and Tobago under the European Union-funded Biodiversity Support Programme for ACP Coastal Environments (BioSPACE). The programme is designed to build regional capacity for the sustainable management of marine and coastal ecosystems, leveraging UTT’s expertise in integrated coastal and ocean management, ecosystem-based approaches, and marine governance.
This visit formed an integral component of the students’ final-year academic engagement, providing an opportunity to meet directly with research supervisors and advance their academic projects. The students also engaged with faculty, toured UTT’s specialised facilities, and strengthened professional networks that support regional collaboration and knowledge exchange.
