MME’s Annual Awards Ceremony 2025

The University of Trinidad and Tobago's (UTT) Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing and Entrepreneurship (MME) Unit recently hosted its annual Awards Ceremony, an afternoon filled with pride, gratitude, and inspiration. The evening celebrated the accomplishments of our top-performing students across all programmes. This year's feature address was delivered by our own, Dr Jack Warner, a recent PhD graduate in Entrepreneurship and Commercialisation Studies. Speaking not as a politician or football administrator, but as a fellow alumnus he reminded the audience that the event was more than a ceremony - it was a celebration of resilience and possibility.

Dr Warner's address powerfully affirmed the unique role of the MME Unit within the University and the broader national landscape. He described the discipline as one that “builds nations, fuels industries, transforms economies, and literally shapes the machinery of modern life.” He emphasised that their degree was “more than a certificate - it is an invitation to join the global community of builders and problem-solvers,” at a time when skills in engineering, manufacturing, innovation, and entrepreneurship are urgently needed both in Trinidad and Tobago and around the world.

Drawing from his own journey as a mature doctoral student, Dr Warner shared three enduring insights with the graduates. Firstly, that excellence is built on discipline - the daily habits and consistency that matter far more than occasional brilliance. Secondly, innovation begins where comfort ends - real progress is born in the space between uncertainty and determination, when graduates “lean in” rather than retreat. Thirdly, and at the core of his message, that “technical knowledge makes you competent, but integrity makes you exceptional.” Long after machines, systems, and even industries change, it is reputation and values that endure.

The ceremony also paid tribute to the many hands and hearts behind each student's success. Dr Warner invited graduates to acknowledge parents, families, friends, mentors, lecturers, advisors, and lab instructors who “carried you… so that we could celebrate this special moment.” Faculty members were appreciated for their dedication in shaping minds, correcting errors, expanding horizons, and holding students to the high standards worthy of UTT. In this spirit, the MME Awards served not only as recognition of individual achievement, but as a testament to the strength of the MME learning community.

The top performers from across the Unit's programmes were honoured - from the Certificate and National Engineering Technician's Diploma, through the Bachelor of Applied Science in Manufacturing and Design Engineering, to the postgraduate degrees in Innovative Design and Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Manufacturing Management and Entrepreneurship. As recipients crossed the stage, they embodied Dr Warner's closing charge to be builders, innovators, creators, and leaders - “architects of tomorrow” who proceed to develop strong technical skills, unshakeable integrity, and hearts that remain both courageous and humble. The image of Dr Warner at the lectern will forever capture the spirit of this year's ceremony: a moment where past, present, and future MME graduates stand together in service of national development and global progress.

The University congratulates all awardees and commends the MME Unit for its continued excellence.
