On October 18th, The Academy for the Performing Arts presented "The Place To Be" - a lecture-concert to mark Calypso History Month. Assistant Professor of Music, Simon Browne led the UTT Ibis Ensemble, together with vocalist, Krisson Joseph, in performing his transcriptions & arrangements of old-time Calypso and other vintage Trinidadian dance music. He discussed the theme of place and identity in early 20th- century Trinidad and illustrated ti through specially curated music from Lovey's Band, Lionel
Belasco, Edric Connor, and Lord Kitchener.
An enthusiastic audience in Theatre 1 at UTT's NAPA campus expressed their delight and were in boisterous voice singing along to classics such as Kitch's Nora. One attendee expressed that he, "could not remember spending a more enjoyable hour!"
