The Academy for the Performing Arts (APA) continued with their school visits sponsored by Ansa McAl this week, with a visit to Bishop Anstey East and Trinity College East by the APA Jazz Combo, under the direction of Assistant Professor Aidan Chamberlain.
This highly interactive visit featured ten APA music students who performed a variety of jazz styles from swing to funk. The ensemble demonstrated the elements of each style and had discussions about the pieces with the school students.
A number of school teachers and school students joined in, improvising over All Blues and AfroBlue. A number of students had prepared One Note Samba and the APA Jazz Combo backed up their students creating a large ensemble.
The school learnt about programmes on offer at APA and a number of upcoming events that they hope to attend. Students also shared that some of them will be future APA students soon!
