UTT Maritime Students Tour Vessels as Part of TTPA Internship

The University of Trinidad and Tobago's Maritime Studies programme broadened its horizons this summer through a hands-on industry placement with the Trinidad and Tobago Pilots' Association (TTPA). The experience included tours of two (2) markedly different vessels - the crude oil tanker VLCC Ocean Loyalty and the Geoquip Speer, a specialised offshore drilling vessel with Dynamic Positioning Class 2 capability. The stark contrast between these vessels offered invaluable insight into the varied operations that drive the maritime sector, deepening students' understanding of vessel logistics, safety regimes, and the practical realities of maritime careers. This immersive experience not only enhanced their technical knowledge but also highlighted the wide range of opportunities available within Trinidad and Tobago's dynamic maritime industry.

The tour was guided by Pilot Master John Paul Pantin and Pilot Wazim Mohammed, both proud UTT alumni. Pilot master Pantin was among the first graduates of the Diploma in Maritime Operations - Navigation programme, while Pilot Mohammed holds an MSc in Operational Maritime Management. Under their guidance, the students gained first-hand exposure to shipboard operations and the professional responsibilities of maritime officers. Opportunities such as these strengthen students' academic foundation and prepare them for the realities of a demanding, dynamic industry.

The University is committed to excellence in maritime education, we extend our sincere gratitude to the TTPA for facilitating this opportunity and for their continued support in shaping the next generation of maritime professionals.
