The University of Trinidad and Tobago’s Outreach and Industry Relations Unit recently delivered a technical course on the Maintenance and Troubleshooting of Medium-Voltage (MV) and Low-Voltage (LV) Switchgear. The course brought together electrical professionals for practical, industry-focused training.

Delivered over 16 hours at UTT’s Chaguanas Campus, the course focused on the safe maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of switchgear systems. Key areas included safety best practices, arc-flash awareness, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and fault diagnosis.

Through technical instruction, case studies, demonstrations and simulation exercises, the course strengthened the competencies required to identify faults, support equipment reliability, minimise operational downtime and promote safer workplace practices.

Through courses such as this, UTT’s Outreach and Industry Relations continues to provide industry-responsive training that strengthens technical capability, supports workforce development and helps organisations respond effectively to evolving operational and safety requirements.

Facilitator Mr Paul Sammy demonstrates the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during the training session.
